About Me

So you wanna know something about me? I’ll certainly oblige the request, but I should warn you up front it’s not very exciting. But surely you can’t expect much – you already know I’m a book nerd. Anyway, I am a single female in who has spent 30+ years working at my local hospital. I attended college later in life and in 2011 graduated from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in English. (But please don’t hold any grammatical errors or questionable book review criticisms against them – they did the best they could.) I don’t claim to be the most voracious reader or the nerdiest of the book nerds, but I don’t shy away from the fact that I am a part of that club.

I am active in my church and am a lifelong United Methodist. Starting in the early 2000’s I took training classes to become a Certified Lay Servant. This allowed me to lead worship and deliver sermons in the absence of the pastor of my church as well as local area churches. As of May 2022 I have begun exploring a call into full time ministry as a Licensed Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church. I am currently spending time in a process to discern and examine that call on my life. I may occasionally post thoughts on faith and religion, and while I will always do my best to be respectful of and faithful to my denomination’s teachings and doctrines, please note that my opinions will be my own. I do not intend to be and will not try to be the spokesperson for United Methodism. Any thoughts and writings I post here will be my own working out of my faith and my beliefs and are only meant to spur others to their own considerations and reflections. I promise to never intentionally say anything to cause harm to anyone or to misconstrue what the UMC stands for or more importantly the message God wants to share with us all. However, any faith journey is a journey of growth. There are approaches to my faith from earlier in my life that are no longer the same approach I take now. God doesn’t change. But our relationship to God and our understanding changes over time. In a nutshell, I am not perfect. So if I do err or stray I will certainly work to make any amends.

UPDATE TO THE PREVIOUS PARAGRAPH: I have completed the discernment process mentioned above and as of July 1, 2023 will become a Licensed Local Pastor in Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church with my first appointment to a church beginning July 5, 2023.

Animals have always been and, as long as I’m able, will always be a part of my life. My current situation in that regards includes 1.5 dogs and 6 goats. The goats are nothing more than pets and provide us with great laughter, joy, and occasional troubles. Are you now wondering about the half dog? Well, my parents have a Yorkie, and I have a new puppy (as of September 2021). They are becoming best gal pals (just like my parent’s dog and the Yorkie I lost in April were) and feel like they should always be together. So they split their time between my house and my parents; thus, both homes are helping tend to and care for each other’s dogs.

I live in a small rural community surrounded by family.  I’m sure you will meet some of them in the near future as I share my various anecdotes.  As you can probably tell, this site is still under construction (and still is so some degree here in the year 2023 and will probably always be) therefore my plans for what I want it to look like and what I intend to discuss may vary as time passes by.  However, at this point I hope a major portion will remain dedicated to my love of books and reading – so I will share what I have read, what I am reading, and what I hope to read along with insights into how particular books have shaped my thinking.  I hope to also share some of my own writing (poems, essays, short stories) for those of you who may be interested.  And I am sure that it is inevitable that I will occasionally begin to pontificate about current events and the goings-on in the news.

Feel free to leave a comment on anything you may read here.  You may disagree with anything I say as long as you are respectful and considerate.  I promise to offer the same to my readers.  If you do not want to comment directly on the blog, please feel free to e-mail me at mcpeeler@bellsouth.net.

So thanks for dropping by and please come back to visit soon.
