College Pathway

A tiny part of land.
Bearing the weight of the bands
of Footsteps to the Future –
Stoic there it stands.

It wobbles as I pass
over on my way to class.
This paving stone framed with
tiny shoots of grass.

Square. Red. Singly it looms
among those it fights for room.
Rectangles. White. Packed all
in tight little groups.

Adjoining – not Adjoined.
This stone that seems to be scorned.
Do those surrounding it
Urge it to conform?

Placed among its neighbors –
Solid, yet still it wavers.
Settle in. Struggle free.
Which does it favor?
